Authors are now revealed at the collection. Although this year’s round has officially ended, the collection will remain open indefinitely for late treats. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the success of this round as a participant, pinch-hitter, beta reader, or otherwise! This exchange couldn’t happen without you.

Assuming there remains sufficient interest on your side and time on mine, I would be happy to run a third round in 2024. If you have any feedback for me regarding the exchange, please feel free to comment on this post or to email me at austenian@gmx.net.

Finally, if you’re itching to write more Jane Austen fic in the meanwhile, I encourage you to check out the Non-Canon JAFF Ship Prompt Fest also run on AO3, which is currently open for posting through the end of this year. (I don’t mod this event, but as a fan, I am excited about it.)

All works are in, which means that we’re on track to open as scheduled at 00:00 UTC on 7 October (countdown), about a day and a half from time of posting. If you participated in last year’s round, please note that this is eight hours earlier than the 2022 reveals time. If your time zone is behind UTC, that means that reveals will happen on 6 October for you.

The deadline has passed, and there are no current pinch hits. Thank you and well done, all! If you completed your assignment and are still awaiting a gift, your writer has been granted an extension, and it will be in before 2 October.

If you’re interested in creating a treat as we look forward to reveals, feel free to browse the requests app. Like assignments, treats must be complete works in a requested fandom and include a requested character or relationship within that fandom. In contrast to assignments, there is no minimum word count.

As extension deadlines arrive and I spot-check works for completion, pinch hits may arise in the coming days. Please continue to watch your inboxes for any queries and the comm for any updates.

As a reminder, the assignment deadline is one week from today, on 29 September at 22:00 UTC (countdown).

If you need an extra day or two to finish your assignment, you may request an extension by contacting me at austenian@gmx.net. All requests for extensions of up to 48 hours (i.e., at or before 22:00 UTC on 1 October) will be granted, but I do need to be notified prior to the original deadline.

As a reminder, if there is anything you want your writer to avoid in your fic, you must list it as a Do Not Want/DNW in the requests section of your sign-up form. Please also remember to complete and unlock any letters linked in your sign-up.

Sign-ups are now open on AO3 until 13 August at 22:00 UTC (countdown).

Before you sign up, here’s a summary of what your sign-up will include:

You must make a minimum of 2 requests, but you are able to make up to 10. Fandoms may not be repeated between requests. For each request, you may add

1 fandom (required);
1 - 20 relationship tags (required);
Request details (optional), for details such as prompts, likes, and DNWs. Authors are required to respect their recipients’ DNWs, but they can only be enforced if indicated in your sign-up;
Prompt URL (optional), linking to any further information about your requests, such as a ‘Dear Author’ letter.

You must also make a minimum of 2 offers, but you are able to make up to 10. Fandoms may not be repeated between offers. For each offer, you may add

1 fandom (required);
1 - 20 relationship tags (required);
Offer details (optional), for matching requests.

If you’re still planning your sign-up, you can browse the tagset here. If you would like to make any late additions to the tagset, you may request them in the comments of this post until 24 hours before the close of sign-ups.

Jane Fairfax/Mrs. Dixon (Emma - Austen)

‘Miss Campbell/Jane Fairfax (Emma - Austen)’, which refers to the same pairing, is already in the tagset in the same fandom. Would you have any objection to offering and/or requesting this relationship using the existing tag? If you would prefer a piped version of the tag, such as ‘Miss Campbell | Mrs. Dixon/Jane Fairfax (Emma - Austen)’ or would like to argue for two distinct tags, please comment on this post by the end of the nominations period. If I don’t hear back by then, the nomination will be merged with ‘Miss Campbell/Jane Fairfax (Emma - Austen)’.

I appreciate your fidelity to Miss Steele’s choice of word, but I’m afraid Elinor may not be the only one uncertain of its meaning. Nominations are now open at the tagset until 1 August at 22:00 UTC (countdown).

Here are some short reminders before you nominate:

Nominate fandoms using canonicals where possible. Do not use All Media Types or Related Fandoms.
Nominate relationships as ‘Character A/Character B (Fandom)’ for ship fic and ‘Character A & Character B (Fandom)’ for gen, alphabetised by surname. Groups of three or more characters may be nominated in the same style.
Nominate individual characters as ‘Solo: Character A (Fandom)’.
Nominate crossovers under the ‘Crossover Fandom’ umbrella fandom. Disambiguate characters individually [e.g., ‘Edmund Bertram (MP - Austen)/Colonel Brandon (S&S - Austen)’].
Disambiguate your nominations to make it clear what canon you’re interested in. Think ‘P&P - Austen’ and ‘P&P 1940’ rather than ‘P&P’.

To gauge whether there is sufficient interest to run a second round of Austen Exchange, I’m hosting a short interest check. Please consider submitting a response to this Google form if you might be interested in participating.

Your responses to the form are anonymous and nonbinding. The survey is just a way of estimating the likely size of the participant pool. Feel free to share it with any communities you belong to which may be interested in the event.
