Thank you to everyone who has submitted nominations so far—it’s always so much fun to watch them come in. As a reminder, the nominations period will end on July 15 at 22:00 UTC (countdown), about six days from the time of posting. To help this period run smoothly, I’d like to take a moment to clarify the tags currently awaiting approval.
If you see one (or more) of your nominations in this post, please leave me a comment by 22:00 UTC on 11 July (countdown), a little under 48 hours from time of posting. Thank you!
Persuasion - Jane Austen
- Admiral Croft & Sophia Croft & Anne Elliot
Since Admiral and Sophia Croft are married in canon, I’d like to confirm that your nomination is indicating a platonic relationship between all characters (i.e., Admiral Croft and Sophia Croft are not in a romantic and/or sexual relationship in the fic), which is what your use of ampersands indicates. If that is the relationship type you would like to request, I’m happy to approve the tag as ‘Admiral Croft & Sophia Croft & Anne Elliot (Persuasion - Austen)’. If, however, you would like Admiral and Sophia Croft to be in a romantic and/or sexual relationship with one another and another type of relationship (e.g., platonic, familial) with Anne Elliot, I suggest using the tag ‘Admiral Croft/Sophia Croft & Anne Elliot (Persuasion - Austen)’.
If you have a preference between these tags, please leave a comment here or edit the nomination on your nominations page by 22:00 UTC on 11 July. In the absence of a response, I will add both tags to the tagset.
Crossover Fandom
- Any Antagonist (Any Austen Book) & Any Other Antagonist (Any Other Austen Book)
This is a delightful idea in the vein of our ever-popular Any Hero and Any Heroine tags, but I want to be sure that the scope of the term ‘antagonist’ is clear.
It seems likely to me that characters like General Tilney from Northanger Abbey, George Wickham from Pride and Prejudice, and Mrs Norris from Mansfield Park would be included. Is that correct? What about characters like Fanny Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility, Frank Churchill from Emma, or Elizabeth Elliot from Persuasion? What about Fitzwilliam Darcy from Pride and Prejudice or Jane Fairfax from Emma? You don’t need to provide an absolute verdict for each of these characters individually (though you are welcome to), but I would like to get a sense for how broadly you feel comfortable defining this term.
Depending on the answers I receive, I may wish to discuss alternative wording for this tag to ensure that all participants have compatible understandings of its meaning. If I do not receive a response by 22:00 UTC on July 11, I will accept the tag as is; in this case, I will take a broad interpretation of the tag should questions of its meaning arise.
Other interested parties are welcome to provide insight into how they might use the tag; however, if you choose to comment, please indicate if you are or are not the original nominator.
There are also five nominations under ‘Crossover Fandom’ missing disambiguations:
- Colonel Fitzwilliam & Colonel Brandon
- Colonel Fitzwilliam & Frederick Tilney
- Colonel Fitzwilliam & Frederick Wentworth
- Fitzwilliam Darcy & Henry Tilney
- William Collins & Henry Tilney
Before I can approve these nominations, I’d like to confirm which versions of these canons you’re interested in. If you nominated any of these relationships, please comment on this post indicating your preference or edit your nominations to include the appropriate disambiguations.
If the nominator(s) do not respond to this query or edit their nominations by 22:00 UTC on 11 July, any outstanding nominations will be approved as being for the novels.
Nominations will remain open here until 15 July at 22:00 UTC. Thanks again!
