Sign-ups closed, no unmatchables

Sign-ups are now closed, and everyone is matchable! Participants can expect to receive their assignments within the next two days. You’ll hear from me once more after assignments have been sent; any initial pinch hits will also be shared at that time.

While you wait, you’re welcome to browse the requests app to brainstorm ideas for your potential assignment or for treats.

On that note, if you are interesting in receiving treats and created your AO3 account after February 2022, I encourage you to check your gift settings on the ‘Preferences’ page. In order to receive gifts outside of an assignment, you must select the box labelled ‘Allow anyone to gift me works.’

only out of curiosity, but if there are no unmatchables why do we have to wait for assignments to go out ? not trying to rush your process at all ofc, youre the mod & can time things however you like!!, but i cant deny im intrigued by what the backend of running an exchange is like xD

A very reasonable question! The behind-the-scenes of exchanges can be mysterious indeed—and even as the mod, I feel anxious for assignments to be released.

Since I consider ‘offer details’ (i.e., requests by participants to be matched with a certain kind of prompt), I like to review the assignments generated by AO3 to see if there are any I can improve based on that information, which can add a little bit of time to the process. While it isn't always possible to shift assignments like this, I try my best to honour these requests where I can. Depending on the year, I may also have sign-up queries out which may affect matchability, even if all participants are officially matchable.
